Crystal Serum Light with everything the application actually requires: the prep spray, the applicator, the plush cloth and enough take-off microfibres to do the whole car without reusing one.
CSL is a hard, chemically bonding ceramic layer, rated to 9h, and it is the base coat we install on customer cars. Applied properly it holds gloss and repels contamination for years. Applied badly it has to be machine polished off, which is why the prep gear matters and why every step below is worth reading before you open the bottle.
Kit or just the bottle?
The difference between this and CSL on its own is the prep gear: 500ml of prep spray, the applicator, a plush cloth and eight take-off microfibres. If you already have prep spray and clean microfibres on the shelf, buy the bottle.
What is in it
- 1 x Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light (30ml or 50ml)
- 1 x Microfibre Coating Applicator
- 1 x Plush Paint Cloth
- 8 x yellow coating take-off microfibres
- 1 x Prep Spray, 500ml
Before you start
- The car needs to be indoors and stay indoors for 12 hours after application. Not in direct sunlight.
- Apply between 5°C and 25°C.
- Wash and decontaminate the paint thoroughly first. Polish out any imperfections, by machine or by hand, because the coating locks in whatever is underneath it.
- Shake well and wear gloves.
How to apply it
- Spray prep spray into the plush paint cloth and wipe every panel down in small sections.
- Soak the applicator with 3 full pipette measures of CSL and work it in so the pad is evenly saturated.
- Put the lid back on the bottle and set it down. Holding it in your hand warms it and promotes premature curing.
- Apply in overlapping strokes over roughly a 2ft by 2ft area, or work to the bodylines of the car.
- Remove the residue immediately with a yellow take-off microfibre. You may need to go over the same area several times, but do not force it. Use two cloths at once and rotate them, so CSL does not cure into the cloth and make buffing harder.
- Inspect the panel under a bright, diffused light before you move on.
- Move to the next section and repeat.
Good to know
- If residue is left behind and cures fully, that area has to be polished and recoated. Checking each panel under light as you go is what stops that happening.
- Throw the yellow take-off microfibres away after use. They are consumables, not cloths.
- Layering EXOv5 on top? Wait about 2 hours after CSL. EXOv5 also needs a warmer day, above 10°C rather than 5°C. The CSL + EXO kit has both.
- Store in a cool, dry place and use within 3 months of opening.
