Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light + EXOv5 Ceramic Coating Kit (30ml/50ml) Up To 5 Years Durability

The layered ceramic system we install on customer cars, boxed with every consumable the job needs. Crystal Serum Light goes down first as the hard, chemically bonding base layer that does the protecting. EXOv5 goes over the top and does the water behaviour and the gloss.

Two coatings, two sets of rules. The instructions below are split into two parts for that reason, and the temperature the car needs is different for each half. Read both before you open anything.

Is this the right kit for you?

This is the full system, and it is what we would do to our own car. If you only want the base coat and the durability, the Crystal Serum Light Kit is the same job without the top layer. If the car already has a coating on it and you only want to restore the water behaviour, the EXOv5 Kit is the one.

What is in it

• 1 x Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light (30ml or 50ml) — the base layer
• 1 x Gtechniq EXOv5 Hydrophobic Coating (30ml or 50ml) — the top layer
• 1 x Microfibre Coating Applicator
• 1 x Plush Paint Cloth
• 12 x yellow coating take-off microfibres
• 1 x Prep Spray, 500ml

Before you start

• Block out the day, and the garage for the day after. The car has to stay indoors and dry for 12 hours once the last coat is on.
• Wash and decontaminate the paint thoroughly. Polish out any imperfections, by machine or by hand. A coating locks in whatever is underneath it, including swirls.
• Gloves on for both products.

Step one: Crystal Serum Light

1. Car indoors, out of direct sunlight, between 5°C and 25°C.
2. Shake the bottle well.
3. Spray prep spray into the plush paint cloth and wipe every panel down in small sections.
4. Soak the applicator with 3 full pipette measures of CSL and work it in so the pad is evenly saturated.
5. Lid back on the bottle, and set it down. Holding it warms it and promotes premature curing.
6. Apply in overlapping strokes over roughly a 2ft by 2ft area, or work to the bodylines.
7. Remove the residue immediately with a yellow take-off microfibre. Several passes is normal, but do not force it. Use two cloths at once and rotate them so CSL does not cure into the cloth.
8. Inspect under a bright, diffused light before you move on. If residue is left behind and cures fully, that area has to be polished and recoated.
9. Throw the used take-off microfibres away. They are consumables.
10. Note where you started on the car. You will start EXOv5 in the same place.

Step two: EXOv5, about two hours later

1. EXOv5 can go on from 1 hour after CSL. We wait around 2 hours to let the base coat flash off properly.
2. EXOv5 needs a warmer floor than CSL. Out of direct sunlight but above 10°C, completely dry, and dry for at least 12 hours afterwards. That is the one number that differs between the two halves of this kit, and it is not a typo.
3. Shake the bottle well.
4. Going straight over fresh CSL? Skip the prep wipe. It is not needed.
5. Prime the applicator evenly so the pad is damp.
6. Apply in overlapping strokes to a small panel or half a large one, starting where you started the CSL.
7. Wait 1 to 2 minutes, then buff with a yellow take-off microfibre, followed by a second one to clear any smearing. The surface should feel slick.
8. One layer only. Unlike the version it replaced, you do not go around the car a second time.

Good to know

• Keep EXOv5 off plastic trims, rubbers and hard plastics such as headlights and tail lights.
• Let it cure at least 12 hours before it gets wet, and leave the car unwashed for the first week.
• Store both bottles cool and dry, and use within 3 months of opening.
